Raised at the Isles of Shoals since she was four years old, Celia Laighton married Levi Lincoln Thaxter and became a famous poet, writer, painter and parlor host on Appledore Island to many artists, writers and musicians. She painted and sold pottery to help support her family, including her three children, Karl, John and Roland Thaxter. We have many fine examples of her painted pottery in the Vaughn collection.
