About

Vaughn Cottage is a small library, museum, and archives located 10 miles off the coast of Portsmouth, NH, on Star Island.  This rich and diverse collection is open to the public during the summer months.  Visit www.starisland.org for more information about the Star Island Corporation, summer conferences, and more.

The stone building that houses the collection was built in 1960 as a joint memorial for Charles Vaughn and Celia Thaxter.  Vaughn Cottage houses the personal library of Charles Vaughn as well as many museum items donated by Celia Thaxter's decendants.  Downstairs is the Charles Vaughn Library and reading room, across the threshold from the Thaxter Museum.  Upstairs is a restricted access archives.
